Show Todd Condemns 'Strike Zion', Dubbed Pro-Israel Propaganda glorify a sneak attack. Ordinarily, one would expect only a propagandist propa-gandist to praise such a book. However, since the U.S. unlike the rest of the world subjects itself to I have a few comments concerning concern-ing the Israeli propaganda book "Strike Zion!" which was so improperly im-properly extolled by Mr. Saffle in last Friday's Chronicle. First let it be said that contrary to the impression given by Mr. Saffle, the "Israeli victory" in the Middle East last month was not a "miracle war" nor was it a "moral victory". It is to be hoped that the world has progressed far enough to forever for-ever reject animal-like claims that a military victory can be used as a vindication of moral and political arguments. Only a blatantly partisan book of propaganda would even attempt to a steady stream of pro-bra eli prop- aganda and hears almost nothing of the Arab side, anything is Pss jj ibiet is time Americans realized that there are two sides to u Arab-Israeli conflict. In fact, it is this author's opinion that the more a nation trains for and perfects its war-making ability the less likely is that nation to be humain and just. I would point out the Germans, the Tartars and now the Israelis in their mistreatment of conquored Arab nationals as examples of this. According to U.N. sources in New York, the "noble" Israeli army in addition to looting the shops of Arab civilians has systematically stolen and pillaged over 15 million dollars of U.N. equipment and supplies at their Rafah camp alone! Brutal treatment given to Arab refugees by the Is- raelies is an almost universally acknowledged fact. There is, however, another matter to be set "straight". The Israeli military victory was not as Mr. Saffle claimed, "one of histories histor-ies overwhelming military victories". victor-ies". Let me cite some recent examples ex-amples of the Israeli type propaganda. propa-ganda. The Communist takeover of China in its final stages was start-ingly start-ingly rapid. Even more spectacular was the German WWII Blitzkrieg which within days brought France to her knees. Here was our miracle war, if such a thing can exist. In that war, the French and British air forces were by no means inferior to those of the German Lutwaffe. In addition, those battles were not fought in the open desert where everything can be seen and . destroyed from the air. There was no feasibility that opposing troops would loose their effectiveness within a matter of hours either from lack of water, or because they were unable to hide from the merciless and absolute authority au-thority that is given to air power in modern desert warfare. During the first and second years of Germany's invasion of Russia, advances of up to 80 miles in a single day were not uncommon. The equivalent of Israel's "miracle war" would have been considered as merely a single campaign. A well executed one to be sure, but of minor importance and brilliance compared to others executed by German Generals such as Rommel, Von Manstein and Guderian. I have mentioned German achievements of WWII for two reasons. First, to put the "miracle war" in its proper perspective. Second, Sec-ond, to be able to state emphatically emphatical-ly that dazzeling military victories by no means justify the political philosophy which lies behind them. If Israel wishes to regard her possibility pos-sibility fleeting victory over the Arabs as a justification of Israel's aims and policies, then she must |
