Show Write Your Congressman We have often wondered why the Federal Government which urges to the point of subsidy that everyone get a college education, has never offered the student any sort of tax credit for spending four years out of the money market. We never received an answer to qur question until recently when if . United States Senate approved a p whereby income tax credit up to would be offered students for tuittt , books and fees paids to colleges, r versities and other post-high , institutions. The revitalization of the did a job of helping the strug- iiudent but most students do not fall within its bounds. The majority of students could only be helped by the Ribicoff proposal. Indeed, it should be passed. Final passage of the measure will not be easy. The Inderal Administration Administra-tion has long opposed any measure of its type. To gain passage it is urged that all students write their senators and urge passage of the bill. Utah's two senators showed unusual un-usual ignorance when the bill came to the Senate. Both Senators Wallace Bennett and Frank Moss opted to vote against it. If University students en-mass en-mass write Moss and Bennett urging ultimate passage of the bill perhaps the duo can be made to change their votes. We urge all students to write the Utah and other senators asking for support of the bill. The money you save may be your own. |
