Show I I : i " - is - MARV MELVILLE ... ski coach Former Olympian Guides NCAA Runner-up Skiers One reason for the current success of University of Utah sking is its coach, former Olympian Olym-pian Marv Melville. MELVILLE LENDS a dignity and a class few other coaches have. He was an Alpiner for the United States in the '56 and the '60 Olympic games and utilizes his knowledge of skiing to the highest in his coaching. As .a skier, Melville placed 18th in the 1958 world championships champion-ships in Badgastein, Austria and 22nd in the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1960. At Utah, Melville won the NCAA downhill and slalom in the 1959 NCAA championships. Melville is in his third year as head ski coach at the "U." Besides coaching, coach-ing, Melville is a member of the Olympic Ski Games Committee of the United States Ski Association, Asso-ciation, the NCAA Skiing Committee, Com-mittee, and has been chairman of the United States Ski Association Asso-ciation Coaches System. One honor to Melville is the fact that Utah skiing has come a long way since his three-year tenure. Last year's second place finish is the highest a Utah ski team has ever finished. |
