Cave, assistant professor of history, will be the ; speaker at this week's Thursday lecture. His topic is "Main Themes of Southern History." ! MR. CAVE, whose ancestors came from both the Rebel and Unionist sides, received his B.A. degree at Linfield College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Florida. He taught social science at the University of Florida then went to the City College of New York where he taught history. He has taught history at the University since 1962. Mr. Cave is the author of the book "Jacksonian Democracy and the Historian," and is currently working on a monograph on "Conservative Thought in the Age of Jackson," and on a book of readings on "The Main Themes of Southern History." IN THE FIRST part of his lecture, Mr. Cave will analyze the evolution of Southern historical writing. In the second part he plans to assess the relative validity of some of the interpretations of Southern distinctiveness that have been advanced by historians. "I want to explain some of the changes that have occurred in the attitudes of Southern historians since that time in the early Dr. Alfred C. Cave will give the Thursday Lecture in the OSH ' Auditorium today at noon.
