Its Anything Goes Time Utah Meets Utah State There is speculation Roy Shivers, USU's fin,e tailback will be back in action sporting a 12.6 yard per carry average. If not he will be replaced by Eric Maughan while the injured Marv Kendrick will be replaced by Dave Clark. Utah will be led by Allen Jacobs and Ron Coleman, currently cur-rently one, three in WAC rushing rush-ing and Roy Jefferson who is second to Jake in scoring and has a shot at a new pass receiving receiv-ing mark. By REECE STEIN ChronicI Sporta Editor Sun Bowl bid? Utah's highly rated football team could care less until the big one is out of the way. Sun Bowl bid? Utah State had a shot at it last year at this time too, remember? The world stops for these two schools until tomorrow's heated football rivalry is over. It is one of those games where anything goes. Utah sports a great record at 7-2 but the Ags were 8-1 last season at this time and lost to Utah with a fair 3-6 record. The Aggies stand 3-5-1 and the feeling in Logan is spelled: "We want Utah." Utah will put up one of the best defenses against the Aggies Ag-gies while hammering away on the ground with an effective running attack and improving passing game. Utah State will peel the tape off its battered squad and send a fast backfield, big line, and dogged determination into Ute stadium. THE AGGIES have had nothing noth-ing but hard luck this year and rolled off to a big start but slipped as their stars broke bones and tore ligaments. At one point all four starting backs were out of action and it is doubtful that any of the original four will see anything more than limited action ac-tion Saturday. Utah, comparatively free from injury, lasting that is, has been at full strength for much of the season. Roy Jefferson and lineman line-man have been out of action for some games but the squad had been in perfect condition for the past five games. Ron Edwards and Richard Groth will be the starting quarterbacks quar-terbacks and will pose the biggest individual dual of the day. Edwards is the leading total offense man in Logan with 798 yards while Groth, alternating with Pokey Allen early in the year has 629 yards. Edwards has ground out 273 yards on the ground which is great for a quarterback. Groth has nine. |
