Show v TO "sillk Bv STEVt: WILLIAMS ''Heridity is when a teen-age boy winds up with his mother's big brown eyes and his father's long yellow convertible." We hear the folks over at Panguitch or riled up at Stan Mikulewicz, publisher of the Garfield County News, because he published the story (carried ah,o in this week's Milford News and Beaver Press) about Mrs. Garnetta Hollis catching a chub in Panguitch Lake supposedly cleared of all trash fish. In the first place, the Panguitch Pan-guitch folks should realize that news is news, and any newspaper news-paper publisher who only publishes pub-lishes "good" news, or items favorable to a community, suppressing sup-pressing anything" that isn't rosy, isn't worthy o'f his profes sion and soon even the horne-towners horne-towners lose all respect for him. More than one 'newspaper man' has learned this the hard way. The publisher doesn't make the news he just prints it. In the second place, the catching catch-ing of a chub in Panguitch Lake after the lake was cleared of trash fish, is an item that will be published in state, and possibly pos-sibly out-of-state, newspapers. It'll get people talking all over again about Panguitch Lake, and that's good ! ! The sportsmen flocked to Panguitch Lake when the waters wat-ers held about as many chubs as they did rainbows, so who is stupid enough to figure they'll, quit patronizing the resort because be-cause ONE chub was caught there? Instead of howling at Stan for publishing a news story about their tourist attraction, they should be joking about it with the rest of the state, and capitalizing on it. J. H. Radtke (for some reason we always want to call him "Dutch" and usually refer to him as J. "A" Radtke) dropped off a mess of rainbows for Steve Jr. before leaving on a vacation trip to Missouri to see his family. Jack says he get's too darned lonesome for those kids and his wife of course and has to go back every few months to get acquainted all over again. Too bad he can't convince Mrs. J. A. that the West ain t really such a bad place to live. The Beaver County 4-Hers are up at Kents Lake enjoying "sleeping out" and cooking over a campfire, on their annual encampment. Learning handicraft, handi-craft, putting on skits and plays, trying to keep a clean camp, and keeping the camp and their chaperones wondering what's gonna happen next They'll be back in the valley this week end, and next week we'll have a report from the camp scribes. Well, we're gonna be YlVi miles closer to Ely, so far as pleasant driving is concerned, in a few months. The State Highway Commission has called 'for bids for paving YiVz miles of Highway 21 from the top of Wah Wah on west, which will leave only about 17 miles of gravel between here and Ely. And according to Mayor Ray Kizer and a few others, who are repeating the "promises" we've been hearing for eight or ten years, it's supposed to be completed oiled, except Wah Wah summit, this year. We'll believe it when we see it but we are really grateful for the 17 miles. David Killam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Killam of Milford was one of nine Utah prize winners in the recent Fisher Body Craftsmans' Guild de sign contest. David received an honorable mention award in his age division divi-sion along with a check for $25. |
