Show BUILDING UNDER WAY FOR DIAL PHONES Dial telephone service for the Milford exchange was. brought a step closer as erection erec-tion of a new building was started at the rear of the Mountain Moun-tain States Telephone & Telegraph Tele-graph Company's property at 258 South Main street. The building- will be constructed con-structed of cement blocks and when completed will house the central office equipment to operate the new dial system. Manager Gerald Vickers stated the building will be completed in July. Then the installation of equipment will begin. At the present time new cable is being erected in South Milford to increase facilities I there and make it possible for the company to reduce the num- I ber of parties connected to each line in this area. Also, cable ' is being erected in the northwest north-west section of the city to provide pro-vide more and higher classes of service to telephone customers. custom-ers. In about 30 days a crew of I installers will arrive to begin the work of replacing each of I the 560 telephones with dial instruments. i All of this work is scheduled I for completion early this fall and then the system will be ready for use. A completely new telephone numbering system sys-tem involving the use of a name-numeral prefix followed by four figures will be adopted here. ' At this same time the Beaver exchange will also be changed j to dial service and customers ! there as well as those in the ! Minersville exchange will also have completely new telephone ' numbers. Work is now in I progress on the new Beaver I building. I These service improvement j and expansion projects for the ; three exchanges will require an expenditure of almost $200,-000, $200,-000, Manager Vickers said, and are a part of a $10 million con-, con-, struction program to be com-j com-j pleted in Utah this year. |
