Show I LOCAL 4-HERS ENJOY OUTING By RUTH CLINE Camp Scribe A very enioyable time was had by all at the annual 4-H Encampment held at Kents Lake July 14, 15 and 16. Camp officially opened at 4 p. m. Monday, July 14, with a meeting of all the participants. Plans for the encampment were discussed and booklets and programs pro-grams were distributed among the 4-Hers present. Following this meeting camp officers were elected by camp representatives. The fololwing officers were named: Sonja Hollingshead, mayor; Patricia Wilcock, secretary; Ruth Cline, camp scribe for The Milford Mil-ford News; Gwen White, camp scribe for the Beaver Press. The following committee members mem-bers were chosen: Rhonda Mc-Quarrie, Mc-Quarrie, chairman of program committee, with Patricia Gron-ning Gron-ning and Vicki Beaumont as ( committee members. ' Clean Camp committee I Nancy Yardley, chairman; Jenny Sue Smith and Georgia Stapley. Recreation committee Mauri Rollins, chairman, Nine Rue Yardley and Gayle Tolley. Flag Raising committee Fred Wright, chairman; Jimmy Williams Wil-liams and Gordon Eyre. I Camp officers were Helen Nowers, Genevieve Sheriff and Don Alger. Log Sawing committee Ray Paice, Billy Thompson and Jack Rollins. Campfire services were held Monday evening at 7:30 p. m. Introductions In-troductions of the new camp officers of-ficers and guests of honor were made. Guests of honor were Bill Hart, assistant state forester; j Mr. Moore, assistant professor j of forestry at the U SA C; Mr. ; Cox, outstanding 4-H worker j from Iron County; Jasper Puffer, Puf-fer, Beaver County sheriff, and Hamner Christensen, Beaver , forest ranger. A special number from Milford Mil-ford consisting of vocal duets by i Gayle Tolley and Sandra Johnson, John-son, and stories, made up the en- j tertainment for the balance of the evening, Tuesday activities included a flag raising ceremony, handicraft, handi-craft, sports and games, camp-f.re camp-f.re program, and other activities. activi-ties. The campfire program consisted con-sisted of special numbers from the various clubs of Beaver County, a special number from Beaver, and a candle lighting ceremony. Wednesday morning, immediately immedi-ately following the flag raising ceremony, the following awards were made: For the skits, first prize was awarded to the Crazy Kitchen Cookers of Beaver; second prize to the What's, Cooking club, also of Beaver, and third prize to the Round Robin club of Milford. Individual skit awards were presented to the Lucky Cooks of Beaver and the Singing Needles of Milford. In the log sawing contest, the award for girls 13 years and under un-der went to Diane Davis and Joelene Lessing of Beaver, and Mauri Rollins and Georgia Beth Smith of Milford. For the girls j 12 years and older prizes were given to Sonja Hollingshead and Rhonda McQuarrie of Beaver, and Darma Lofthouse and Carole Walker of Milford. I For boys 12 years and under, the prizes went to Jack Rollins, Jimmy Bailey, Jimmy Wright and Bryan Sherwood of Milford. ' Awards for leaders were pre-1 pre-1 sented to Karen Beaumont and Joyce Harris of Beaver. Awards for the cleanest camp went to the combined clubs of the Crazy Kitchen Cooks and the Slicky Sound Sewing Senter, first prize, Second prize went to the Round Robin club of Milford, and the Pins and Needles club was awarded third prize. Forestry awards were given to Darma Lofthouse for accuracy 1 and Fred Wright for speed. . Marie Messinger and Anna Marie Nielson were given a prize for speed and accuracy. |
