Show MILFORD DEEP WELL WATER TEST GAINS ASSOCIATED CLUBS SUPPORT Joseph R. Murdoek and George Mayer of Milford. representing the community at the' June 30th meeting of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern and Eastern Utah, obtained the club's backing of a project to further the development of underground water in the Milford Valley area. Obtaining the support of the Civic Clubs Association was the latest forward step in the continuing continu-ing efforts to prove the existence of inexhaustible underground under-ground water in the Milford area. Mr. Murdoek told the group of the existence of hitherto hith-erto unknown water in the Milford Valley, discovered by oil drillers in August, 1950. At that time, Mr. Murdoek pointed out, geologists estimated that the water " could j never be exhausted through normal irrigation or manu- iacturmg uses. Encountered at 1450 feet, the vast pool of water was estimated estimat-ed to be 2000 feet deep, and the geologist expressed the opinion that it extended north to Black Rock and "at least 10 miles south," with the water-gravel i belt widening to the south. On motion of By Stringham, chairman of the Civic Club's J irrigation board, the group ap-1 proved the project and urgea the Utah Power and Water Board to assist in proving the extent of the underground supply. sup-ply. Following up the Civic Clubs endorsement, Mr. Murdoek and Gene Mayer of Milford contact-) ed Wallace Yardley of Beaver, chairman of the Beaver County Water Board, and reported that Mr. Yardley agreed to furnish Mr. Murdoek with a letter from the Beaver County board endorsing en-dorsing the project, which Mr. Murdoek could present to the State board when the board was contacted for assistance in the project. "We have not received the letter let-ter of approval from Mr. Yard-ley," Yard-ley," Mr. Murdoek said, "and we were unable to present our request to the State Board without with-out being able to show approval of the county board, so it ap- pears that, for the present at least, we'll have to 'mark time' until our local county board decides de-cides to act." |
