The Farmers Union sued for libel. The case was heard in the Utah Federal District Court trial which closed May i 9, 1 95 1 . In an attempt to bolster a flimsy defense, the Farm Bureau imported from all parts of the nation an imposing array of Ex-Communists and other witnesses. Yet during a whole week of testimony, the Farm Bureau's witnesses could not name a half-dozen Communists among the 300,000 National Na-tional Farmers Union voting members in 30 states of the Union!
