Show "Spring" for Your Curls By Mrs. Marguerite Mickeisen Take your cue from the frisky breezes, Spring is here to stay! A hat-blowing, April-showering Spring to try a" girl's allure. Misty rains are fine for ducks, but it's another story where your hair is concerned. Carol Douglas, well known beauty consultant, con-sultant, advises a "head start" on the season. Here are a few cf her own beauty tips which will protect your good looks through spring into summer. Remember, first, that the basis of all warm weather loveliness love-liness is an attractive hair-do. The careless girl with straggling strag-gling tresses has no excuse nowadays now-adays with the easy-to-do home permanent kits so handy on the beauty shelf. If you already have spin curlers, all you will need is a refill kit. If you don't, have these easy-to-use, all in one piece curlers, you'll find them worth the investment. Be sure o find a kit with four full ounces of waving lotion. You'll need every drop for a good, springy curl. Winter-weary hair will need conditioning if it's to take a joft, natural wave. For several weeks before your permanent, double your daily brushing to stimulate the scalp and spread the natural oils. Shampoo your 'iair every five or six days with a mild, creme-type shampoo and use a glamorous creme rinse after each sudsing to tone up your hair and make it easier to manage. v Before you give your home permanent, it's time to check your hair s yle, too. If you're handy with the scissors, snip jnd style yourself. If you are -ict, have a professional cut your hair. While the haircut has nothing to do with the way your permanent takes, it will have a lot to do with the way Lhe finished hair style looks. Now for the permanent itself. You can achieve just the kind of home permanent you want by pay;ng close attention to .hree basic steps. One, be sure to block and action according to the picture directions sheet. Wind each -trand firmly. Wind neat, not bunchy curls. If necessary, practice rolling a few strand-with strand-with water until you get the knack. Five minutes of practice prac-tice will pay big dividends. Two, make each wound curl dripping wet with lotion. Don't skimp; use all four ounces of the waving lotion. Carefully press the cotton filled with lotion lo-tion around each wound curl and squeeze to force the lo'ion through the layers of hair. This will guarantee that the very tip ends of the hair which were first wound will receive their full share of lotion-soaking. Three, when your carefully timed check curls show just the amount of curl you want, you're ready to neutralize. Firsv, use a dry turkish towel to blot off every bit of excess waving lotion. lo-tion. Then, squeeze a generous amount of neutralizer into each wound curl, just as you did the waving lotion. Follow directions direc-tions carefully at this point because be-cause it's the neutralizer that permanently fixes the curl in the hair! Wait five minutes, then towel-blot and re-neutralize. Wait 15 minutes, unwind the curls and pour all of the remaining re-maining neutralizer through the hair three times. Your lovely new wave, so suited to the season, will be a handsome reward for your care n following directions and your patient attention to details. BEAUTY BRIEF It's no trick to smooth on dry rouge quickly if you dust your face lightly with powder first. And don't forget to leave a coai'-ing coai'-ing of powder on your lips for the basis of your lipstick. You'll find the lipstick stays on longer, long-er, goes on smoother and holds a more even line. |
