Show JOHN A. ROOT DIES IN SALT LAKE CITY - Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, in the Milford L D S Chapel, for John Anson Root, 92, who died at 8:45 a. m. Monday in a Salt Lake hospital of causes incident to age. Car-lyle Car-lyle Gronning, Second ward bishop, will be in charge of the services. Mr. Root, an early Utah pioneer pio-neer and well known Milford , resident, crossed the plains to Utah in 18C5. He was an early stage driver in the state, and i engaged in many of the state's industries. ) 'Retiring from active endeav- ors 25 years ago, he continued to live in Milford until he moved to Salt Lake to live with a daughter, Mrs. F. W. McKay, three years ago. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa, June 13, 1858, a son of Lewis and Eliza Ann Holland Root. After moving to Utah when seven years old, he settled with his parents in Cedar City, where he received his early education and engaged in the ranching and mining industres. He moved to Salt Lake Cty about 1905, and served as driver driv-er of a mail stage. He later moved back to Cedar City and then to Milford. In January, 1884, he married Margaret Pace in New Harmony. Har-mony. She died in October, 1946, in Mlford. Mr. Root had lived in Milford Mil-ford at different times during the past 60 years, operating a restaurant here, and being well known as a hotel manager in Cedar City and Lund. He was an avid baseball fan, and attended at-tended baseball games whenever when-ever possible until this season. Besides his daughter, he is survived by three sons, Pratt and Max Root of Milford, and Cass Root of Salt Lake City; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the home of Max Root Friday until time of services. Bursal will be in Mountain View cemetery at Beaver. |
