Show STATE BOARD OF AGRIOUIiTURB CALLS HEARING OX NOXIOUS WEEDS The control of weeds in Utah is one of the State's most serious problems. It is serious because weeds reduce the income of farm- ers, cut down the production of farm, products, reduce the value of Utah's natural resource, the laud, takes property off from the tax rolls, and increases the cost of government, so far as weed control con-trol is concerned. The continuing battle against weeds is of concern to every person in the State, regardless re-gardless of his business or occupation. occu-pation. Realizing' the public interest in this important problem, many years ago the legislature enacted laws permitting cities, counties, and the State to cooperate with land owners in combatting the weed menace. This program provides pro-vides for full participation by farmers far-mers and other land owners, and provides enforcement machinery by which weeds can be cleaned up on canals, railroads, ranges, and other areas which are infested. For the purpose of reviewing the Noxious Weed List and of making such additions as seem appropriate ap-propriate in the light of recent developments, the State Board of Agriculture is calling a public hearing in the Governor's Board Room at the State Capitol, Thursday, Thurs-day, April 13th, at 2 p.m. This is an open public hearing and everyone every-one interested in weed control is invited to attend. The State Board of Agriculture is interested in hearing from farm and livestock people, all state and federal agencies serving agriculture, agricul-ture, members of the seed trade, members of county weed committees, commit-tees, county board of commission-: commission-: ers, county weed supervisors, and others who may care to appear and present testimony at this hearing. Based upon recommendations which may be made to the Board at this public hearing, the Board will then make such changes and additions in the Noxious Weed List as seem appropriate in order to effectuate the most successful weed control program for the State. |
