Show JAMES LANG, PIONEER BEAVER CO. RESIDENT, DIES OF HEART AILMENT James (Ross) Lang, 82, pioneer pio-neer Beaver County resident, died at his home here at 1:20 a. m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, of a heart ailment. Mr. Lang had been ill for the past week, complaining com-plaining of pains around his heart. He was born Aug. 13, 1867, at St. Thomas, Nev., a son , of David G. and Mary Loftwood Ross. At the age of six months he was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Lang of Beaver, and raised as their son. Mr. Lang's first experience as a wage-earner came at the early age of 13, when he was employed em-ployed as a wood chopper for the charcoal kilns at Frisco. He also worked at the Oagden saw-Imill, saw-Imill, and helped build the first access road for the Telluride Power Company in upper Beaver Beav-er Canyon. He was employed by the power company thruout their original construction, and helped build Kents Lake, the ditch from the South Fork area into the lake, and was a member mem-ber of the road crew that in one day chopped a road from Three Creeks to the LeBaron Meadows. At the age of 18 he ' helped construct the first dam at LeBaron Meadows. Later, he held the offices of city marshal, deputy sheriff and justice of the peace in Beaver,. On July 4, 1892, he married Nancy Jane Anderson in Beaver Beav-er and in 1916 moved to Milford to make their home. Mr. Lang worked as a miner until he retired re-tired in 1937. He loved outdoor life, and was an excellent hunter and fisherman. Last year he spent his birthday at LeBaron Meadows, Mead-ows, and tramped the hills each day of the 11-day deer season and a five-day special postseason post-season hunt in Beaver. He would often go into the foothills foot-hills or mountains to cook his breakfast over an open fire, "just to get outdoors and smell the sagebrush." He was a me. nber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat- ti-i-day Saints j Surviving, besides his widow, are one son and two daughters, daugh-ters, Ross Lang of Milford, Mrs. Mary Cate of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. Isabel McK.ee of South Gate, Calif.; a half-sister, Mrs. Kate Thurston of Salt Lake- six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren . Funeral services will be conducted con-ducted Saturday at 11 a. m. from the Milford Ward L D S Chapel, under direction of Bishop Bish-op Carlyle Gronning. Friends may call at the home from 9 to 11 a. m. Burial will be in the Beaver Cemetery. |
