Show MERRILL JAMESON BURIED WITH IMPRESSIVE RITES Merrill Jameson, who was killed on Saipan in 1942, was laid to rest Tuesday in Miners-ville, Miners-ville, his old home town, with full military honors, in the presence pres-ence of one of the largest assemblages assem-blages ever to gather in Beaver County. More than 500 persons witnessed the brief but impressive impres-sive American Legion graveside services, conducted by District Commander J. M. Hughes and Commander Clarence McWhort-er McWhort-er of the Milford Post. Arriving in Milford at 2 30 n m., escorted by Staff Sgt. Black-ham, Black-ham, the body of the. soldier was met by pallbearers from his home town, .and conducted to the funeral carriage by Commander Hughes, who performed the duties du-ties of chaplain, and Bugler Gerald Ger-ald Hickman. An entourage of more than 40 cars escorted the body to the Minersville Ceme-' Ceme-' tery, where a huge throng of Minersville and Beaver County citizens had gathered to pay final homage to the war hero. The color guard took positions at the head of the grave, and Commander McWhorter ordered his squad to attention as the pallbearers pall-bearers bore the casket to its final resting place. The dusty flag which had covered the remains re-mains during its long voyage from Saipan, and its journey to ' Ogden and Milford, was removed and a new flag was draped over the casket. Chaplain Hughes pronounced the ritual, Bugler Hickman blew "Taps," and the flag was reverently folded. Charj- lain Hughes then tendered the flag to Mrs. Jameson, mother of the slain soldier. After the firing fir-ing squad had honored the soldier sol-dier with a last salute, his remains re-mains were slowly lowered into the grave. The grave was dedicated by Charles Jameson. Pallbearers, all Minersville ex-service ex-service men in the uniforms they wore while on duty with the armed forces, were John Williams, Wil-liams, Neil Gressman, Gene Myers, Vance Roberts, Kirk Bohn and Daisel Davis. Milford Legionnaires who served as color ! bearers and color guard were ' ' James Griffiths, Bill Smith, Bud James and Maynard Voorhees. Jay Christensen, Arle Gustav-son, Gustav-son, Darrell Perkins, Blair Coon, John Grimshaw and Jack Lester served on the firing squad. |
