Show Mapleton lists candidates for municipal election Doug Bills Carlos Hjorth Don Korth "a Ray Whiting Mapleton's two parties nominated nom-inated candidates at conventions conven-tions last Wednesday night at which a large number of citizens citi-zens turned out for each of the conventions. Progressive Party selected Douglas Bills, incumbent, to be candidate again for mayor. Mr. Bills has served for the past four years in this position. Chosen as his party's city council running mates were Ray Whiting, seeking another term, and Welby Warren. Citizens Party candidates selected se-lected at the meeting were Carlos Hjorth, mayor; council-imen council-imen for the party, Porter Leavitt Lea-vitt and Don Korth. Douglas Bills Mr. Bills has been employed by Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Co. for 41 years and is foreman of the shipping department. de-partment. He has been active in the Springville-Mapleton Wildlife Association and served one year as its president. He is active in the LDS Church and is currently serving as stake M Men leader. He is married to the former Lenore Johnson and they have seven children and 16 grandchildreen. Welby Warren Mr. Warren is a life-long resident of Mapleton and has served two terms previously as town board member and one term as mayor of the city. He has been active in church work and civic affairs for a great number of years. He is a past bishop, and served as high council member for several years. He is presently employed employ-ed at Thorn Rock Products Company and operates a small farm in Mapleton. His wife is the former Mabel Dibble. They have three sons and daughters and several grandchildren. Ray Whiting A Mapleton farmer and livestock live-stock man, Mr. Whiting is a native of Mapleton. He is an incumbent seeking re-election for a third term on the city council. He has served as a member of the Mapleton City Planning Commission. Presently Present-ly he serves as president of the Nebo School Board. He is an active member of the LDS Church and he and his wife, Lora, are the parents of four children, and two grandchildren. grandchild-ren. Carlos Hjorth Mr. Hjorth has lived his entire en-tire 50 years in the Springville-Mapleton Springville-Mapleton area. He has been in business for himself since his release from the Navy where he served during World War II. Taking an active part in church, he has been bishop of the Mapleton Second Ward, was a member of the high council and is presently serving as stake executive secretary He is married to the former Louise Averett. They have five children. Porter Leavitt Mr. Leavitt, who is employed at the Geneva Steel, served in the Army during World War II in the transportation corps. He has been active in civic clubs and civic work having just completed several years on the Mapleton City Planning Commission. He takes an active ac-tive part in his church, having been a member of the bishopric. bishop-ric. He has worked in the Boy Scout program and is presently serving in the stake Sunday School sueperintendency. Don Korth A native of Garland, Box Elder El-der County, Mr. Korth is active in civic and church affairs. He is a telephone engineer. He is a former bishop's counselor and a member of the high council. He is a member of the Mapleton Maple-ton Lion's Club and is also on the Mapleton City Zoning Committee. Com-mittee.
