Show Springville man paid tribute by Rep. Burton Boyd Williams of Springville is one of two Utahns paid tribute tri-bute by Rep. Laurence J. Burton Bur-ton (R-Utah) for volunteer work in a national program to clean up recreational areas. Mrs. Clare M. Beagley of Spanish Fork was the other Utahn cited. Both have volunteered volun-teered their services at several Utah recreation areas. "The cost of cleaning our public parks and recreation areas is over $500 million annually," an-nually," Rep. Burton said. "Just think what we could do to beautify these same areas if we used that amount for constructive con-structive purposes instead of having to clean up after thoughtless people who don't take the time to merely search out a trash can." The national program, called "Johnny Horizon Country Clean Up Days" began last year in California and was such a success suc-cess that the Interior Department Depart-ment decided to extend it to several other states October 10 through 12. The Utah Congressman, a member of the House Interior Committee, saluted the two Utahns for their time and effort. ef-fort. "It is people such as Mrs. Beagley and Mr. Williams that every citizen of Utah should be thankful for," Burton added. "We can all be proud of their efforts; but, more than that, we should do all we can to beautify the parks and recreation recrea-tion facilities when we use them. It takes such a little time to clean our own litter, and who knows perhaps the results of our own efforts will catch on with others!" |
