Show Gift from the capitol SHS presented flag 1 jj E Old Glory, a gift to the Springville High School from the U.S. Representative Laurence Laur-ence Burton, was presetned to the school last Friday by Allan D. Johnson, Provo businessman on behalf of Mr. Burton. The flag, a five foot by eight foot size, was one of the flags that has flown over the United States Capitol in Washington, D. C. It was presented to the school through Mr. Johnson and the student body president, Clark Bishop, who received it. Mr. Johnson was given a standing stand-ing ovation as a tribute to his presentation and in appreciation apprecia-tion for the fine gesture. Mr. Burton gave the flag after being be-ing attracted to the high school by several articles which ap- . peared in the news media regarding re-garding student grooming, dress and behavior. To paraphrase para-phrase Mr. Johnson, "Representative "Represen-tative Burton felt that a school which enjoyed high academic behavior and dress standards was worthy of this special recognition." The flag will be displayed at the school as determined by the decision of the student officers, Principal Harold Bartlett reported, MEMORABLE EVENT High School Student Body President Pres-ident Clark Bishop accepts the flag given to the school by Congressman Burton and presented on his behalf by Allan D. Johnson, Provo, at the school assembly. The flag is one which flew over the national capitol building in Washington. |
