Show Springville contractors win major highway job on $4,509,386.65 hid 1-70 is scheduled to travel through the country from the eastern border of the state on an east-west direction, turning southwest near Salina and then west again at Sevier Junction to connect with 1-15 at Cove Fort. W. W. Clyde Construction Co., of this city was low bidder on a major highway job, construction con-struction of the first section of Interstate 70 in Sevier County, Coun-ty, last week. The Clyde bid was $4,509,386. 65. The engineer's estimate was $5,061,875.04. There were seven sev-en other bids on the job. The work will be on 10.3 miles of highway and runs from Gooseberry Junction to Spring Canyon in Salina Canyon. Work is to begin about nine miles east of Salina. Among the principal items of work involved are the implace-ment implace-ment of 9,600 tons of bituminous bitumi-nous material; excavation of 2.5 million yards of unclassified material and the implacement of 52,000 lineal feet of expanded expand-ed aluminum which will serve as a median barrier. When complete ,the road will be a four-traffic lane with an anticipated traffic volume of 6,000 vehicles daily. In addition to bituminious surfacing, the job will require construction of three double concrete box culverts. Supervisors named Supervising the project will be W. J. Stephenson, District Three engineer, Utah Department Depart-ment of Highways. Mr. Stephenson Steph-enson said Bert Swain, 35-year veteran with the department, has been named project engineer engin-eer and Eldon Dickenson, 15-year 15-year veteran, will he party chief. Target date for .completion .comple-tion is 1970. The contract calls for completion in 360 working days. During construction, traffic will necessitate routing through the construction site, since the project intercedes with Utah Highways 10 and 4 through Salina Sa-lina Canyon. Clem Church, Panguitch, member of the Utah State Road Commission, said the beginning of construction of this portion of 1-70 in Sevier County, is a significant step m the economy of southern Utah and Utah as a whole. |
