Show v -. ' A- Thomas J. Tingey, BYU graduate, gets Chicago Tribune, Tri-bune, Air Force Awards. Thomas Tingey given two ranking awards Thomas J. Tingey son of Mrs. Leroy D. Tingey, a graduate of Brigham Young University, was awarded the Chicago Tribune Award and the Air Force Association Award. The Tribune Award was presented pre-sented by Stephen R. Covey, Administrative Assistant to the President, BYU. This award is given annually to the outstanding outstand-ing cadet from each class in tlie unit. Each cadet has demonstrated dem-onstrated outstanding military and scholastic achievement as well as possession of strong moral character befitting a potential po-tential Air Force officer. The Air Force Association Award was presented by Dean Armin J. Hill, Dean of College of Physical and Engineering Sciences, BYU. This award is given annually to the .cadet that is in the senior class, who demonstrates to an outstanding degree the characteristics of attitude, initiative, judgement, obedience, respect, personal appearance, ap-pearance, and high moral character char-acter contributing to potential as an outstanding Air Force officer and leader. Mr. Tingey was commission ed a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He will now serve four years active ac-tive duty. Kennecott overlook ready The nation's biggest man-made man-made hole, Kennecott Copper Corporation's mammoth open-pit open-pit mine in Bingham Canyon, is again receiving visitors. A new concrete and steel shelter, complete with restrooms, water fountains, benches and a taped "spiel" explaining mining operations op-erations was completed in early ear-ly May. Ample parking for tourist cars and busses has been provided. Some 200,000 visitors are expected to view the mammoth mine this year proof that this unique Kennecott Kenne-cott public service is appreciated. |
