Show Valley Symphony sets concert Family listening will be featured fea-tured at the second concert of the Utah Valley Symphony Orchestra Wednesday, December Decem-ber 1, at 8:15 p.m. in the Provo Pro-vo Tabernacle. This second annual an-nual concert especially designed design-ed to help young listeners to extend their enjoyment of symphonic music opens with Benjamin Britten's "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra," Orches-tra," with Dr. Preston Gledhill as commentator. Based on a theme by Purcell, this suite wittily introduces the four choirs of the orchestra, the fugue fu-gue form, and other interesting interest-ing bits of musical lore along the way. The first half of the program pro-gram concludes with a set of variations by Arensky on a theme by Tschaikowsky. This selection will be introduced by conductor Dr. A. Harold Goodman. Good-man. Learning the theme and variations form from this melodic me-lodic theme should especially appeal to those whose musical interest is still likely to be focused on the "tune." |
