Funston spoke positively about the success the city is experiencing ex-periencing with the weed ordinance, but added, "people still don't seem to care that much about their property, although, a number do. ' "It's .a hard question to answer, and I'm still trying to come up with a solution, and an answer, on how to get across the im portance of keeping a , clean city," said Funston. "We just get one house cleaned up, and next door we still have problems." The committee did express its appreciation to State Bank for cleaning up properties the bank owns, and hopes the cleaning process will become infectious to other businesses, organizations and people in the community. CEDAR CITY - The Cedar City Beautification Committee recently reviewed and discussed its beautification awards to be presented at the August 5 Cedar City Council meeting. At its July 20 meeting, the committee discussed which businesses and individuals should receive the beautification and appreciation honors. The committee will be making the award presentations at the council meeting. The committee also discussed the city's weed abatement ordinance and the progress the city is having enforcing the ordinance. It was reported that Cedar City Fire Marshal Clint Neilson has cited about 20 property owners for their lots which contain injurious and noxious weeds, garbage, refuse and unsightly or deleterious objects or structures all of ' which are against the city's weed ordinance. About 50 percent of those cited are complying with the ordinance or-dinance and are cleaning up their properties. According to committee com-mittee Chairman Guil Funston the city will probably go through the citings and, at the end of the month, clean up the properties with the cost of cleaning being assesed as |
