Monday, the storm dropped .42 of an inch in Cedar City, and Tuesday there was. an additional .34 at the airport, although it is estimated that it rained much heavier in town. Tuesday, lightning hit a Utah Power & Light Company transformer, leaving a big share of Cedar City without electricity for about four hours. Also, a number of roads and basements were again flooded. CEDAR CITY Mother Nature has unleashed s several real "gully washers" in Cedar City this past week, ' causing some weather ' related damage in the area. Cliff walls above part of State Highway 14 gave way Thursday afternoon and sent mud, rocks and other debris covering a section of the road about ten miles east of Cedar City. The road was closed I for several hours while crews worked and cleaned up the mess. No injuries were reported in the mishap. During the storm, lightning flashed across the skies and struck two Cedar City businesses. A chimney on Tri-State Motors was struck by lightning, sending bricks flying in all directions. Blasted bricks were reported to be found across the , street on lawns. No one was injured; in-jured; however, car windows were broken and paint jobs on several cars were scratched. McDonald's Restaurant was also struck b by lightning. The only damage reported in that mishap was a fire in a french fry vat and the mess which resulted when the fire was ex? tinguished. No injuries were reported, but JBig Mac attacks were delayed a couple of hours while Mcdonald's employees em-ployees cleaned the mess up. In addition to the lightning blasts, a water line w was broken and three basements were reported to be flooded along with general flooding in the area. Cedar City seemed to be hardest hit in the area, receiving approximately a half inch of rain during the storms on Thursday, according to the Cedar City Flight Service. Parowan airport said it didn't receive any measurable precipitation on Thursday. Cedar City received a trace on Friday, .11 . Saturday and .01 on Sunday. Parowan received .12 on Friday, .16 on Saturday and .11 on Sunday. Then, just about when things were beginning to |
