Show got tie! Mi May. The drumbeat of a marching march-ing band, the precision steps of drill teams, the rah rah of cheerleaders, calisthen-tics, calisthen-tics, running, passing, kicking, kick-ing, the slap of shoulder pads, bright colors, lights and it's football time. Region 12 opens the football foot-ball season Friday, August 28, with both high school teams on their home turf. And the fans are ready, wait -ing In the stands to see what the local boys will do this year. Beaver, coming off of two years of state championship champion-ship squads has 46 players turned out for the 1981 squad but might be a little short on experience. Coach Marshall, always pesslsmistic, says his boys are young, but have a good at -titude. If we don't get plagued plagu-ed with Injuries, we should do alright. The Beavers play North Sevier Friday under the lights at 8:00 p.m. The Wolves would like nothing better than to jump on Beaver Beav-er the first game, and are sure to be high Friday. But Marshall has the knack of getting the most out of his boys, and when the going is tough, seems able to get the big play that makes the difference. dif-ference. Ten trips to the state championships and six titles in 12 years is a tough act to follow and the Wolves will have to have it all together. to-gether. Injuries will be the nemi-sis nemi-sis for Coach Barnes' Tigers. With only about 26 boys, he's got to keep them healthy all season, if the Tigers win. But aside from that he's got a fine bunch of seniors (the Tigers lost only three to graduation last year) a few good juniors and a bunch of good sophomores. And there are a few freshmen who are big enough to see some action. The Tigers open their season sea-son with Dugway Firday at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs will travel a long ways for this one and may be looking for a patsy. But if the Tigers Ti-gers are up, they should present a stone wall on defense, de-fense, and should have their running and passing game going strong. It could be Milford's best year since 1971, and maybe the best ever. But injuries will tell the tale, and those who laid out with injuries most of last year can't be looking for shadows or hearing hear-ing footsteps. It should be an interesting interest-ing season for Region 12. Parowan should come back real tough and North Sevier Se-vier and Kanab could be right in the thick of it. But right now they are all 0-0 with a full season ahead. Anything can happen. |
