Show River r avion A draft plan for management manage-ment and use of the Green and Colorado Rivers inCan-yonlands inCan-yonlands National park was released by the National Park Service. The plan Is the result of a 2 year study which included includ-ed public workshops and the distribution of over 1,000 workbooks that discussed alternative al-ternative proposals. The main emphasis of public comments received centered on the use of motors versus oars, levels and allocation of river use, and control of commercial allocations. The draft plan proposes to allow use of both motors and oars on the Green and Colorado Co-lorado Rivers including Cataract Canyon. A new river use ceiling of 8,000 passengers will replace the present ceiling of 6,660 passengers, pas-sengers, with use distributed distribut-ed through the year and days of the week. The plan also proposes to limit commercial commer-cial outfitters to no more than three permit allocations to preserve competitin and variety of services. Other elements of the plan include such proposals as random camping, size of groups, use allocations and others. The draft plan also includes a preliminary finding find-ing that the proposed actions will not have a significant effect on the environment. |
