Show Horn Silver to open An account in the Utah Mining Digest reports that the Horn Silver Mines, Inc., of Salt Lake city, has completed jlrilling sites and access roads for the Horn Silver Mine west of Milford. The company is seeking a contractor to rehabilitate the King David Shaft, as the principal prin-cipal access to the mine. They are in negotiation on a joint venture agreement agree-ment to develop the property. prop-erty. The Horn Silver, which was a significant factor in the development of Beaver County, was discovered in 1871 and hit its hey day in the early 1880's. The present pres-ent ghost town of Old Frisco hit a peak of 6,000 population before a cave in, in 1885 started it's decline. The railroad was pushed south to Milford in 1880, and a spur line moved supplies sup-plies to Frisco and ore to northern smelters. The mine continued to be active until 1943, at reduced levels, though several other caveins hampered production. Old Timers relate that a good vein of ore remains in the once famous and highly productive mine. However, there have been numerous companies who have promoted the mine in recent years, but little work has been done until this latest lat-est venture. |
