Show "Vilsn Everybody has a cure for what ails you except the doctor. It always amazes me that people will listen to anybody but the expert. Anyone with Arthritis knows there is no cure, but hardly a week goes by without with-out some announcement of a new breakthrough. And you'd be surprised how many will try it, knowing the odds are that it may cause more harm then good. - 0 - What brings on this bit of philosophizing is a couple of friends who reported the past week that their wonder won-der cures had backfired, and they were back to following doctor's orders. We long ago learned that if there is a new drug or treatment for Arthritis that has any merit, we'll likely hear of it from Doc first. And the sensational drugs, solutions, diets, and treatments treat-ments you read about in the tabloids, may cause far more problems than the one you have. We suppose Arthritis is probably the most mistreated mistreat-ed illness in the world. Almost Al-most everybody has it to . ie extent, and so many gs seem to help, at least for a little while. Most diets, teas, and solutions so-lutions are just diuretics, and though they may seem to help, can cause other problems prob-lems that may have serious consequences. Treatments from hot baths to horse Una -ment relieve the symptoms, but that's all. And those copper bracelets just pull the hair on our arm. Don't get the idea that we don't appreciate the concern con-cern as we cripple down the street. And we know you have the best of intentions. But don't get upset if we don't run right out and buy a bushel of Taro leaves, or submit to accupuncture. 0 -Like the fellow said:"It's not as easy to be the clown, when you are running the circus." - 0 - The television networks either have MX buried and dead, or swallowing up the West. But most of the time if you wait for the details to be printed, you find that nothing has really changed. The Air Force keeps plodding plod-ding along, singing the same old tune, moving slowly, but always forward. The reason is simple, no one, politicians, anti-MXers, anti-MXers, religious leaders, and self -proclaimed experts, ex-perts, has come up with a better alternative. Most of the ideas that do come up are not even new. They have been studied and rejected years ago, as being im -practical, more expensive, or the technology is years away. One thing you can be sure of is that MX is going to be built. And while Utah and Nevada delegations may kick up their heels about deploying deploy-ing It here, It's not likely they will convince the other 500 votes in Congress to spend a few more billion to deploy it elsewhere, or in another an-other manner. And they've told us often enough that if the decision comes down to deployingMX in Utah and Nevada or no MX, they will have to vote for MX. - 0 - Now, we don't have any doubts about where MX will be deployed. We see no other alternative. However, the base location loca-tion is another situation. If Gov. Matheson and his MX Coordinator, Ken Olson, keep up their opposition, there is a fair chance that they may cost Utah the main base. Nevada would be tickled tickl-ed to death to have one at Coyote Springs and the other at Ely. And the Air Force really couldn't care less. - 0 -Milford deserves a crack at the base. It has been the one constant friendly place to MX. Beaver County needs the growth, and the economy that will go with the base. Siting of the Utah base can be very Important to Milford and Beaver County. The site, 10 miles south of Milford, recommended by the Four County Policy Board would assure Milford and Beaver County of permanent, per-manent, stable growth. Moving Mov-ing it farther south to the Beaver - Iron County line, or in Iron County, would undoubtedly un-doubtedly still impact Beaver County, but certainly certain-ly not the same way. Many of the cultural aspects we could look forward to with the base close, would not come. There Is some indication that Iron County would open zoning right to the base, creating a honky tonk strip, residential and commercial from the base to CedarClty. Is this the type of growth pattern to encourage? Growth patterns should be encouraged in existing communities, com-munities, rather than spreading them out and creating cre-ating need for additional services. The North Es-calante Es-calante site or Milford site, just south of town, would do this, and assure orderly development. de-velopment. Growth would spread evenly over several communities, rather than lumping all on one, and could be more easily handled by all. , We urge the Air Force to give the North Milford site every consideration. You might as well live where you have a friend. We can't promise you a four year college, but we certainly can promise you a fine, warm, friendly environment. |
