Other energy sources being considered include solar, wind and bio-mass. ROOSEVELT HOT SPRINGS The Utah State Public Service Commission has given approval to the contract con-tract between Phillips Petroleum Pet-roleum and Utah Power & Light for the use of geo-thermal geo-thermal steam to produce electricity. The two com-panys com-panys have agreed to the sale and use of steam discovered dis-covered by Phillips at Roosevelt Ro-osevelt Hot Springs near Milford. Phillips will supply the steam to electrical generating gen-erating plants operated by UP&L. A 20 megawatt pilot pi-lot plant is scheduled for completion by early 1984. This will be the first com -mercial production of electricity elec-tricity in the nation, outside out-side of California. The site may have the potential to supply electricity to hundreds hun-dreds of thousands of people. UTAH MAY RECEIVE MX STUDY MONEY FOR GEOTHERMAL The Utah Commercialization Commercializa-tion Project has applied for $10,000 in funding from the DOE to assess the possibility possi-bility of using geothermal energy in powering all or. part of the MX system. The Air Force has made the money available through DOE in order to evaluate alternative energy resources resour-ces for the massive system. Stanley Green, project manager says the funds will be for a short term information informa-tion gathering effort that will be completed in March. If the MX is approved by Congress Cong-ress and President Reagan, a more detailed study will be |
