' SAN FRANCISCO TO MEMPHIS ON HORSEBACK: Fletcher Gordon, 31, was an inside salesman for a steel company, didn't like his job, and wanted a change. He also wanted a vacation, to visit home folks in Tennesee, and he wanted to get the feel of the country and people along the way. Not a horseman, he quit his job, sold his car and motorcycle and bought a horse, from a man who said she was eleven. He later learned she was 15, and the saddle was for a quarter horse, not a-Tennessee Walker, named Brooks. With money from his car and motorcycle, and donations from friends, amounting to $3,000.00, he started out June 5th on a 2900 mile trip to Memphis, to see the backroads of America. Saturday evening he reached Milford aboard a very tired Brooks, hoping to spend a couple of days resting her, and treating treat-ing her to some oats. He hoped to do that at the Joe Duffy's. He said he's enjoyed the country, the people, and looks forward to continuing the trip. He expects to reach Memphis in October. |
