Show - Inside Washington with Senator Jake Gam Senators Jake Garn and Orrin Hatch ahve appealed to Senator James Abourezk(D-S. Abourezk(D-S. Dak.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Parks of the Energy and Natural Re -sources Committee, to expedite ex-pedite consideration of the National Historic Trails Act of 1978 (S. 2705). In a letter to the subcommittee sub-committee chairman, the Utah Senators requested quick consideration of the bill offered to amend the National Trails System Act which is under the jurisdiction jurisdic-tion of the ParksSubcommit-tee. ParksSubcommit-tee. The measure is designed design-ed to mark and otherwise identify pathways, trails, and byways which do net qualify as Scenic or Recreation Trails System. The legislation leg-islation will also designate the Mormon Pioneer Trail as an "historic trail" under un-der the new category. "The bill does not call for the acquisition of any federal, state, or privately -owned lands," Senators Garn and Hatch said, "we are not asking for anything more than a simple marker to identify a significant segment seg-ment of American history which in the case of the Mormon Mor-mon Trail is of special concern con-cern to the people of Utah." |
