Beaver meets East Carbon at 2:00 p.m. on theorem HighSchool football field and North Summit Sum-mit travels to greet Kanab at Richfield, Friday at 1:30 p.m. by Mel Osborn Two big plays stymied the Beaver offense at Kanab last Friday and turned the game into a 16-0 defeat for the young men in blue and white. The first half was defense and that is what everyone expected. Neither team threatened to score the first 24 minutes, although Kanab penetrated to the 20 yard line of Beaver before the defense de-fense decided that was far enough. The second half began where the first terminated and the kicking game took precedence. Beaver punter Don Atkin hung one high and speedster Steve Martin for Kanab was waiting. The Beaver Bea-ver defense overran the play and by that time the ball was set up for the Cowboys and Martin. He scampered 60 yards for the first score of the night, and following the PAT, Kanab enjoyed a 7-0 margin. Later, Beaver was deep in their own territory and was forced to punt again. Kim Glover shot through the Beaver defense and blocked Atkin's kick, forcing the ball out of the end zone to add two more to the Cowboys lead. Late in the 4th period Beaver mounted another drive to try and survive, but. the series fizzled out on Kanab's 3 yard line. One minute later and Region Re-gion Eight football was history, his-tory, with a three way tie for first place with North Sevier knocking off Paro-wan, Paro-wan, 29-6. Two hours later Beaver, Kanab, and North Sevier met at the Panguitch Junction on Highway 91 for . the coin flips. North Sevier drew the 1st place card and matches up with Duchesne for their quarterfinal game.. That left Beaver and Kanab to flip again for their quarterfinal quar-terfinal positions.
