Show Tigere slosb f fry ffiial flans at Horth Sovior Kain, snow, sleet and mud, plenty of mud! That's the conditions the Milford Tigers Tig-ers braved to play football last Thursday in Salina. And the Wolves proved to be better mudders, as they took advantage of every mistake mis-take to trounce the Tigers, 33-7. The Wolves intercepted a second down pass to set up their first score, with Fred St. Pierre sweeping for five but on fourth down they were no closer and a field goal try in the fourth quarter came up short. A Tiger covered, cov-ered, but Tony Heaps slid into the play and grabbed the ball. The referees ruled for North Sevier and they had a first down on the six. They scored from the one, with 10:24 left in the game. The Wolves mounted a drive from their 45 after receiving the punt and in 12 plays Randy Burr plunged over from the one for the TD . The score was 26 -7 with 4:06 left after the kick. Pullera took the kickoff to the 27. But a personal foul took it halfway back to the goal line. The Tigers got back to the 37 before Pullem picked up two more personal fouls. The striped shirts marched off the first 15 and then split the difference on the next to give the Wolves a first down on the Tiger eleven, and put Pullem on the bench. Jeff Shields carried for the TD. The kick was good and the Wolves led 33-7 33-7 with 2:55 left. The Milford second string took the kickoff and ran out the clock. It was the final game of the Tiger season, and who have a bye this week. Beaver Bea-ver has to travel to Kanab for the final matchup. A win by the Cowboys could throw the region into a three-way tie. Their last outing at Beaver Bea-ver finished in overtime with Beaver winning 3-0. The Cowboys have come a long ways under Coach Jim Ott, for the touchdown, with 8:17 left in the first period. The Tigers had to punt on fourth down and Steve Camp found a big hole right up the middle for 69 yards and the second North Sevier touchdown, .with 6:23 left in the first quarter. Milford blocked the kick to keep the score at 13-0. Pullem went to the air again on third down, and Wilf quarterback Steve Lambertson Lam-bertson picked off the pass intended for Livingston and returned about 15 yars to the Tiger 24. But this time the Wolves came up short on fourth down. Milford mounted a couple of good drives in the second quarter, but were stymied short of the goal. On the second sec-ond drive, Gary Mayer tried a field goal from the 35 that stopped on the one -yard line. Doug Holloway covered the ball for Milford, and Pullem sneaked for the touchdown. It was Milford's only score. Mayer kicked the extra point, and it was 13-7, with 2:57 left in the half. North Sevier chose to kick again and it went out of bounds, so the Tigers started from their own forty. Stymied again, Mayer kicked from the 43, the try was short. North Sevier moved to the Tiger 45 before a fumble stopped the drive and the Tigers took over on their 47. They completed one series before the Wolves again intercepted a Pullem pass to Davis. The Wolves started on their own 17. Camp broke for 51 yards to the Tiger 20, but we'll have to go with Al Marshall's Beavers by six. North Sevier, the third leg of that triangle, travels to Parowan for what should be an easy win unless they try to look past Jerry Dyers Rams. We'll go with the Wolves by 12. Then come the play-offs. East Carbon, who has been on top of the polls as Region Eight powers have knocked each other off, will now have to prove it. We predict the Vikins will not be around' at Rice Stadium for the finals. |
