Show !( in stilt feieieii) u 11 The School Board, in a rare splin decision, struck from the school policy last week the married student policy which kept married students from representing their school in extra cur-ricular cur-ricular activities. The policy had. kept married students from participating in team activities of any kind, and eliminated them as officers or representatives of their classes or school. Supt. Haslem presented the results of the survey of the opinions of school patrons regarding the married mar-ried student policy of the district as follows: Retain present policy ... 58 Revise to restrict the mar- iied student from team competition 11 Revise to restrict from team competition and holding student office 39 Discontinue the policy ...95 Other 2 Total families answering questionnaire 205 Board President Karl L. Truman then turned the Chairmanship of the board meeting to Vice President Gary E. Sullivan. Smith moved that the married mar-ried student policy be discontinued dis-continued and be stricken from the policies of the school district. The motion was seconded by Karl I. Truman. Those two then voted vot-ed for the motion with Mayer and Firmage abstaining. Jesse E. Long, new head teacher at the Minersville School, met with the board regarding his plans for the school next year. He requested that the board authorize the student fees to be increased from the $1.50 fees paid by students last year. Mr. Reed Carter, Mr. Chad Johnson and Mr. Ken Yardley met with the board regarding the board's rental policy. They were representing rep-resenting the Beaver Jay-cee's. Jay-cee's. The board reviewed its rental policy with these . representatives and talked over the necessity of the board's control over the buildings. The board thanked the men for discussing their problems with the board. Superintendent Haslem informed in-formed the board that the Classified School Employees had accepted the boards salary schedule offer. The board adopted the salary schedules for secretaries, custodians and bus drivers and school lunch personnel. A letter from John C. Nielson, Milford High School teacher, was read which thanked the board for aiding in his attendance at the basketball clinic in California. Calif-ornia. He said he was able to obtain some valuable information in-formation for use in the school. A letter of appreciation was received from Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lemon. (Continued on Page 2) HERE'S MORE ABOUT SCHOOL BOARD Supt. Haslem informed the board that Principal D. Alfred Marshall had requested re-quested that the student body fee for Beaver High be raised rais-ed to $10.00. He felt this was necessary to aid in meeting the needs of the student body activities and to offset loss of some fees cut by State regulation. Approved. Approv-ed. A request from Beaver High Teacher Don Tuft was authorized. He requested authorization to take stu-" stu-" dents on a bicentennial historical tour of 8 days in November. The tour will include 15 historical sites in the East and the students would be largely American Problems students. The trip would be optional and cost the students $485.00, to be paid by the students themselves. them-selves. Students of both high schools are eligible to take the tour. The practice of the board in retiring personnel prior to the starting of school, if they have reached their 65th birthday before the starting of school, was reviewed re-viewed and will be considered consider-ed for possible change at the next meeting of the board. The 1975-76 Budget and the 1976-77 Budget were then reviewed by the board. James A. Mayer moved that the regular meeting of the board for the month of July be held at 10j30 a.m., June 30th, 1976, and that the budget bud-get hearing for changes in the 1975-1976 budget and the adoption of the 1976-1977 budget be set at that time and be so advertised, according to law.
