Show Board bandies school problems commodate the bus loads. A letter from Chase H. Murdock which complemented complement-ed the services given by Wallace R. Dean and the Beaver High School radio station was read. A recommendation from Principal Lee R. Pettey that Jeff Johnson be excused from school attendance was approved. ap-proved. A request from Milford High School to furnish girls physical education uniforms was approved. The cost would be approximately $400. Supt. Haslem informed the Board that he had a letter from Yvonne Parkinson, of SUSC, requesting that the Board provide transportation transporta-tion for Upward Bound students stu-dents to Cedar City for special spe-cial classes during the school year and for summer programs. The Board disapproved dis-approved the request unless Mrs. Parkinson can convince the Principals and Superintendent Superin-tendent of the value of the program beyond what is already al-ready given in the regular school program. (Continued on Page 7) The November meeting of the Beaver County School Board handled a number of routine problems. Supt. Haslem reported that Alder Const, was workingon repairs at the Milford High School gym. Several areas had bubbled and come loose. Attempts to patch them were unsatisfactory and unacceptable. unaccept-able. It is felt that possibly the whole floor may have to be replaced. The problem is also in the Beaver gym, but not so acute as yet. The firm is also working on other defects in both gyms. Some beams began scaling and several pieces of cement have fallen. They have all been repaired at present, but the company has been notified of their liability liabili-ty from the falling cement. Supt. Haslem reported that 'Beaver High School won the Region 8 golf tournament, but did not choose to participate in the State golf meet. Supt. Haslem reported that he had scheduled the school bus from Manderfield to extend ex-tend its run toSulfurdaleand rescheduled the bus stops on the other Beaver runs toac- Supt. Haslem reviewed the current policy on facility rental charges. Discussion amoving the Board resulted in agreement that they would not raise facility rental fees at this time, but that the charges for supervisory personnel be increased to cover the actual cost of the increases. This would mean that cafeteria personnel would now be paid at the rate of $3.00 per hour and custodians cus-todians at the rate of $4.40 per hour, unless the activity involves a full time employee in which case an overtime rate shall be in the amount of time and one -half. buses are rented and 30? per mile when the small buses are rented. Smith moved that the Board pay one -half the assessment as-sessment on the State School Board Association. Supt. Haslem recommended recommend-ed that in recognition for services rendered and to benefit from new ideas and trends, that PatriciaA.Rim-pau PatriciaA.Rim-pau and Wallace R. Dean be authorized to attend the National Na-tional Vocational Conference in Anaheim , Calif., in December. De-cember. The Board approved. ap-proved. A request from the Senior Citizens of Minersville to use the Minersville school building free of charge and do their own cleaning was rejected by the Board. The Board felt that it should not change its present rental policy. The Board authorized Belknap Bel-knap School to take the 6th grade to Hansen Planetarium in Salt Lake on a field trip. HERE'S MORE ABOUT BOARD MEETING Clark W. Smith moved that the school lunch be interrupted inter-rupted at Milford High School for a 60 day period and that staff be reduced at the high school lunch. The students will be offered school lunch at the Milford Elementary School and be transported from the high school and will be provided the sandwich service option at the high school. Mayer moved that the amount paid for parent contract con-tract transportation be 10? per mile on a one round trip daily basis. Smith moved that the Board charge 60? per mile when the large school |
