Show FALL BEST TIME TO APPLY PHOSPHATE Snil scientists at Utah State University give reasons why fall is the best time for farmers farm-ers to apply phosphate fertilizer: fertili-zer: 1. When ferttilizer is broadcast broad-cast on alfalfa and improved pasture land in the fall, the fall through spring moisture can move the fertilizer a few inches into the topsoil where crops can use it in the spring. If you wait till spring to add phosphate, you may be too late for the big crop response period. 2. The phosprate can be applied ap-plied and plowed down in the fall on land to be planted to row crops. 3. Farmers usually have more time in the fall than they do in the spring. 4. In the fall the soil is usually us-ually drier and less likely to be compacted with heavy equipment. 5. The use of fertilizer in the fall helps the fertilizer dealer by reducing storage problems and distributing work load. |
