Show RED CROSS FUND DRIVE UNDER WAY The Milford Chapter of the American Red Cross is now conducting their annual campaign for funds, with x-.-rje Schramm and Barbara Mayer as fund drive chair--e i. Goal for 1970 is $630. The American Red Cross is a voluntary organization organiza-tion charged by the Congress of the United States with ."spor.si'jility for serving the members of the armed crces and extending relief to victims of disaster. Both 5 these sen ices are concerned with the meeting of emergency needs, as is also the case with the supporting lc d, safety, and nursing programs. A common denomi-v.tor denomi-v.tor of rdl these diverse services and programs is the lact that each of them is basically "pecple helping people." The American Red Cross has grown out of the concern con-cern of the American people for the well-being of their iwn countrymen and of their fellowmcn everywhere. It offers the American people help in time of trouble and preparation against possible emergencies through training train-ing in health and safety. To do its job the Red Cress requires two things: Volunteers Vol-unteers and funds. It cannct function when either is lacking. Trained volunteers are the motivating force within the organization and are the people who do the majority of its work. A relatively small career staff provides .uidance and continuity. Thousands of volunteers serve in military and veterans vet-erans hospitals. Thousands teach free courses in standard stand-ard and advanced first aid, swimming, lifesaving, and small craft safety. Registered nurses, working as volunteers, volun-teers, teach courses in home nursing and mother and jaby care. Most of the non-technical aspects of the ..Lie d Program are handled by volunteers. Volunteers are a main source of strength in disaster relief operations. The First Presidency of the LDS Church, the Pres-dent Pres-dent of the United States, Governor Calvin Rampton, and Milford's Mayor Eugene Mayer, have all endorsed the Red Cross campaign, and urge the full support of all citizens. The volunteers will make a house to house campaign between March 21 and 31. The present, and urgent, need is for funds. When the volunteer workers knock on your door, greet them .vith a smile and a check. |
