Show TELEPHONE SYSTEM PURCHASES AID UTAH Western Electric, the manufacturing manu-facturing and supply unit of the Bell System, paid $21,875,-797 $21,875,-797 to suppliers in Utah during 1968, according to Gerald Vick-ers Vick-ers Beaver County manager for Mountain States. Mr. Vickers said the amount was an increase of more than $6 million over 1967, when they spent $15,770,344. Supplies were purchased from 264 com-cerns com-cerns in 20 of the state's communities. com-munities. Most of the suppliers sup-pliers were small businesses. Purchases included such items as copper, much of which is used in telephone cables throughout the country; automobiles auto-mobiles for the telephone company com-pany fleet, and office supplies ranging from major furniture items to paper clips. Western Electric employs more than 300 individuals in the state. Headquarters is the Salt Lake City Service Center which serves Utah, Idaho and Montana. |
