Laurence Burton .Representative .Representa-tive in Congress, was featured speaker. "Some of the criticisms young people make of the conditions in our country and of their parents are valid," Rep. Burton said. "In many ways the country is in a mess, but sitting around smoking pot and playing guitars and bemoaning be-moaning the sins of their parents' par-ents' generation will accomplish accom-plish nothing. It is not an easy solution, but singing and songs offers no solution." The Utah Congressman told the high school students that although there would be many problems to face, he had faith in the younger generation. "There have never been such opportunities for leadership as there are today,'" he added. "I have faith that this country will survive, that it will remain strong, that young people who do ont succumb to the melancholy melan-choly of the hippies and who adhere to basic principles of growth and success, will be great leaders. The country needs you . . . and your ideas."
