Show PHONE COMPANY READY FOR HEAVY HOLIDAY LOAD Mountain States Telephone Co.'s Beaver County manager, Gerald E. Vickers, reported today to-day that the company's switchboards switch-boards are expected to be lighted light-ed up like Christmas trees when the huge load of holiday long distance calls begins on Chrstmas week-end. Christmas ranks as one of the two busiest days of the year for long distance calls, Mr. Vickers said. People in our area who plan to make such calls should be aware that almost everyone else has similar sim-ilar plans. The Christmas holiday load seems to be due to telephone customers wanting to share their Christmas with distant friends and loved ones. Many of their calls go to outlying (communities not normally involved in-volved in such heavy traffic loads, and some delay in completing com-pleting calls can result. Christmas night will be the busiest calling time of the holiday hol-iday week end and Christmas Fve will be a close second. Mr.. Vickers encourages people who wish to avoid these heavy calling call-ing periods to place their calls during daytime hours, especially especi-ally early Christmas Day, the day before and the day after. Lowest calling rates will be in effect from 8 p. m. Christmas Christ-mas Eve until 4:30 Monday morning, Dec. 26. "We are making extensive preparations to handle this big Christmas load," Mr. Vickers said. "Long distance switching switch-ing equipment has been keyed to provide alternate routes for calls, additional circuits have been added, and exchange offices of-fices will increase the number of operators on duty that week end. Everything possible will be done to see that all long distance calls will be completed complet-ed promptly." |
