Show INSURANCE AGENTS SAY: ENJOY LABOR DAY;' OFFER TIPS FOR SAFER HIGHWAY TRAVEL "Labor Day, the last holiday of the Summer, is a time for fun," said Joe Smith of the Utah Association of Independent Insurance In-surance Agents. "This last fling of Summer gives us a chance to end the season sea-son with an enjoyable holiday," Mr. Smith said, offering .some realistic tips on how to enjoy Labor Day without stewing over highway safety problems. The Labor Day weekend last year saw 602 people lose their lives on the roads. Here in Utah, six people were killed in this three day period in 1972. "But," reiterated Mr. Smith," if motorists motor-ists will follow basic safety rules, their chances for an accident-free accident-free weekend are immeasurably better." Make sure the care and driver are in tcp condition. Pay special attention to all safety equipment. Drivers should be rested and alert. Don't try to get a jump on traffic by leaving just a little early. Studies indicate the worst jams often occur in the afternoon after-noon of the Fridays of long weekeds. Pan to use the less congested ;.sccndary roads, you may even eave time and you will see more s'cnic countryside. Have an up-to-date map in the car. If you mis your turnoff or take the wrong one, keep going. Never backup on a highway or exit ramp. In the event of breakdown, get wel off the roadway. Make sure you have flares or reflectors and place them well behind the car to warn oncoming traffic. Attach a white cloth to a door handle or radio antennae or rajse the hood and trunk; police and emergency em-ergency service people recognize these distress signals.
