Show ... Lots of fireworks over when to shoot off fireworks. Actually a few individuals got their dander up when the city council coun-cil voted to provide some funds for fireworks, then voted to have the display on the 24th of July. In all fairness to the Council there was no celebration being planned for Milford for the 4th at the time that this decision de-cision was being made. Regardless, the Youth Committee Com-mittee last Thursday night decided de-cided that they would sponsor festivities on Tuesday, and a few, thought that the city funds should be split for fireworks both nights. o Petitions were circulated and brought to the Special Meeting of the council Monday night, with those who were presenting present-ing the petitions, unaware that the council can only conduct business at a special meeting that is on the agenda when the meeting is called. Unfortunately Unfortunate-ly this stopped any council action to change the funds to be used on the Fourth. When the group found that the Centennial Cen-tennial Committee already has in their plans a pageant to be held on the Fourth next year which will be followed by a fireworks display, they agreed to go along with plans this year for fireworks on the 24th. o We are pleased that an agreeable agree-able settlement was made without any attempt to divide the community when all the citizens of Milford need to be united in our effort to get fair and equal treatment from our school board. About thirty-five tons of new dirt was added to the little league infield last weekend. It took all of that just to bring the sunken baselines up to level. They were getting so bad it was difficult to see the base-runner base-runner in a slide. Thanks to Gene Mayer who hauled the dirt, wife Barbara Harry Rose, Ron Rose and family, Junior Kirk and Bob Puffer and whoever else may have helped that we don't know about, your youngster has a much better chance of surviving the little league season sea-son without a broken nose or tooth, caused by a bad hop in the infield. There is a lot more work needs to be done, fix the backstop at the pony league field, paint the fence, paint the concession stand and many others. Don't make the same ones do it all show up next time and lend a hand! o It's nice to have four years between elections. It takes people that long to regain their faith. o The Lions Club car was on public display last Friday and Saturday for really the first time. Marion Walker and crew served an excellent chuckwag-o.n chuckwag-o.n breakfast of ham, eggs and hotcakes. While the cooking and serving was done on the outside, the car was open, and many people took the opportunity oppor-tunity to inspect the new facilities. fa-cilities. Some just wanted to go aboard since they hadn't ridden a train for a long time, and some parents took the opportunity op-portunity to show their youngsters young-sters what a dining car was like, since many will never ride a train. It's ironic that a town whose history really begin be-gin with railroading, should no longer have passenger service, and its youngsters grow up without ever having ridden a train. o The possibilities of a good railroad and mining museum, are still excellent in Milford if some enthusiasts would get organized or-ganized and go to work. It would be a real asset to our community. Marion asked me to thank all those who helped and supported support-ed the Lions by coming out to breakfast. The turnout was light, but the ones who came were loyal and came both days. That should attest to the quality qual-ity of the cooking. Thanks, we appreciate it. Just a reminder that the School Board meets in Milford Wednesday, July 5th at the Elementary School for its July regular meeting. |
