Show GIRL SCOUTS ENJOY THREE-DAY MOUNTAIN CAMP Seventeen Girl Scouts, 9 to 12 years of age, from Troop 585, returned Saturday afternoon after-noon from a very successful three-day camp in the Beaver Mountains above Three Creeks. Naia Beard, troop leader, was camp director, assisted by Thelma Jensen, camp nurse; Rosemary Davie and Charlotte Wise, cooks and capers. All leaders served as counsellors and tent inspectors. Merritt Beard was in charge of tent pitching and fire building. The girls were divided into three patrols, each with a separate sep-arate tent which they fixed up with priyate latrines, dressing rooms, clothes lines, entrance patios, etc. They were excellent excel-lent housekeepers. Patrol leaders were Carolyn Jensen, Golden Palominos; Jackie Price, Magpies; Jeorg-ann Jeorg-ann Davie, Buttercups. Highlights of the camp were initiation ceremony and camp-fire camp-fire program by girls; a 4:30 a. m. bird walk; a long hike to Three Creeks which included includ-ed "wading and a water fight; and an Indian ceremonial campfire program. Singing, eating, hiking, whittling and free time in their tents completed com-pleted the program. Except for a little natural arguing and tardiness, and a tin can stove supper that must have been jinxed, the girls proved to be real campers. All girls attended all activities and deserve a "thank you" for their cooperation. The American Flag, donated by the American Legion Auxiliary, Aux-iliary, and the Girl Scout flag, given by the Lions, added much to the impressiveness of camp ceremonies. Merritt Beard made a beautiful silver flagpole. We wish to thank all who helped to make our camp a success, including the girls for their good behavior, the parents par-ents who got them to Mrs. Beard's promptly before leaving leav-ing and picked them up after our return home. Men who furnished trucks to haul equipment and helped set up and break camp were Bill Smith, Joe Marshall, Cliff Wadsworth and Roy Myers. Handicrafts started at camp will be completed at our next troop meetings and will be on display in Dr. Kohler's window. win-dow. Girls attending the camp were Becky Winn, Vicky Raines, Sydney Burbidge, Betty Jean Friar, Kristi Wise, Shar-lene Shar-lene Stewart, Ann Kimble, Christine Smith, Jeorgann Davie, Da-vie, Vickie Marshall, Christine Myers, Carolyn Jensen, Jackie Price, Carlene Roberts, Colleen Col-leen Murie, JoAnn Price and LaDon Grimshaw. |
