Show 'Big Bay' Saturday at Lehman Caves Special Trail Tours, Free Cave Trips, Barbecue and Square Dance on Program Band music, crowds, souvenir programs, a bar-be-que, distinguished speakers and square dancing. The Fourth of July? No, it's the June 8 dedication of new facilities at Lehman Caves National Monument. The gala affair will begin with formal dedication ceremonies at 2 p. m. at the new cave visitor center. Principal speaker George B. Hartzog Jr., associate director di-rector of the National Park Service, will detail past achievements of the Park Service at the cave and thru-out thru-out the nation. His remarks, "A New Dimension in the Park Movement," will also outline the role of the National Na-tional Parks and Monuments in the nation's present and future. High school bands from Delta and Ely, and the Cali-ente Cali-ente Grade School band will provide music for the formal program. Also on tap will bn the Delta Farm Bureau Girls' Trio. After the ribbon cutting ceremony cer-emony officially opening tha new visitor center, there will be free cave tours and an open house. A special free souvenir will be given to all who attend. at-tend. Beginning at 4 on Lehman Creek, just three mines from the cave, the Lions Clubs of Milford, Delta, Cal-iente Cal-iente and Ely will put on an old fashioned western barbecue. bar-becue. A full meal of beans, beef, salad and desert will sell for $1.50 to adults and 75c to children under 15. In the evening, square dancing danc-ing at the cave parking area and a campfire program on Lehman Creek will be the featured events. The programs are open to everyone, and cave officials urge visitors to bring their entire en-tire family and friends to Lehman Leh-man Caves on Saturday, June 8th. |
