Show By the Journalism Class of Milford High School Mrs. Mary McCulley, Instructor RED CROSS WEEK The annual Red Cross enrollment enroll-ment drive will be held Friday, Dec. 7. The Red Cross will put on an assembly Friday morning morn-ing and will sponsor a dance Friday night after the Green River-Milford ball game. Enrollment means opportunities opportuni-ties for boys and girls to serve others locally, nationally, and internationally and to develop skills, leadership, ability, and civic responsibility. Many of the high school Red Cross programs pro-grams are part of regular school work. Parents, urge your children to support the Red Cross so they can honestly state these principles: "We believe in service serv-ice for others, for our country, our community ,and our school, in health of mind and body to fit us for greater service, and in working- for better human relations thruout the world." We have joined High School along with several quartets will be presented. The newly organized dance band will also present a few selections. The numbers they are going to play are old and new too. This concert should really be outstanding, so come out for an evening of delightful delight-ful enjoyment. STUDENT ATTENDS YOUTH CONFERENCE Joyce Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Moore, represented rep-resented the high school Dec. 1 at the Senate Youth Conference. Confer-ence. Miss Moore competed against four other students of M H S for this honor and worthwhile opportunity. The five were judged on the basis of a transcript tran-script of their school records and a Youth Senate Test on the Consitution of the U. S. The conference was held in the State Capitol building and lasted nearly all day. While in session the students listened to speeches by three prominent men, one of which was David S. King. Aiter each of these, the session was divided into discussion groups where they analyzed more fully the talks. At the end of the day the judges chose six candidates, from which two will be selected select-ed to attend the Senate in New York sometime next year. FLAG CONTEST The Flag Contest sponsored by the Student Council went for several weeks and came to an end Nov. 23-. The Council unanimously chose Laura Sherwood's flag to represent Milford High School. This flag will bear our school symbols and will wave outside pur school. Red Cross to help achieve an aim by working with members everywhere in our own and other lands. F.H.A. BAKE SALE The F.H.A. held their first door to door bake sale Dec. 1. They sold pies, cookies, cakes and cupcakes. These bake sales will be held on Saturdays of each week. The purpose of these sales is to raise enough money to buy a trophy case for the main hall, also to buy a large mirror for the girls' restroom. This year's club is so large that the girls are divided into three .different groups. Each group will take their turn at a Saturday sale. STUDENT BODY OFFICERS TRAVEL TO PROVO The student body officers of M H S have been invited to attend at-tend a leadership meeting at Brigham Young University on Dec. 8. The students going to the meeting are: Marsha Smith, vice president; Linda Sherwood, Sher-wood, secretary; and Judith Cook, paper editor. These students stu-dents hope to gain helpful information in-formation to assist them in their offices at Milford High. MILFORD MEETS GREEN RIVER Milford's Tigers, who have an even record so far this year (1 1), will have their work cut out for them Friday, Dec. 7, when they meet the Green River Pirates at. Milford. Last year Green River played in the State Tournament. One of their players, Larry Beebe, received honorable mention. He is 6 ft 8 and a junior this year. In Green River's first game they beat North Sevier, 49-44. DEBATE TEAM SPENT DAY AT PROVO The Debate Team, under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Roe, speech teacher, made their first trip last Saturday. The team traveled to Provo for the Speech Meet. The team did not enter any of the activities, but they gained valuable information infor-mation on the "Whats and Hows" of debate. The team learned a lot about debating procedures and had fun on their trip. They returned home Sunday. CHRISTMAS CONCERT The annual Christmas Concert Con-cert presented by the high school band under the direction direc-tion of Mr. Ron Hansen will be given Dec. 19 at 8 p. m. Various Vari-ous night practices have been planned to prepare for this event. A number of solos |
