Show U of U Books Three Broadway Stars for February Play Three Broadway stars are scheduled to appear in the University Uni-versity of Utah production of Arthur Miller's famous "A View From the Bridge". The production is set for Feb. 6 through the 10th, with a matinee on the 10th. It will be directed by Dr: C. Lowell Lees, professor arid head of the' University of Utah Theater and Ballet. The play will star Michael Conrad, Sylvia Gassel and Alan Nixon. All three stars have appeared ap-peared in major broadway pro-: ductions and, according to critics, will add a great deal to a very fine play. The full-length version of "View From the Bridge" ran for two years in London and Paris, with one critic saying the following: "A View From the Bridge" takes its place in drama as a modern classic." The play is a tragedy and in it a longshoreman who, though his mind is limited and he cannot can-not find words to express himself, him-self, is an admirable man. When two of his wife's Italian cousins are smuggled into this country he makes room for them in his home, but tragic things happen as a result. Since his "Death of A Salesman" Sales-man" the American Theater hps recognized Arthur Miller as one of its greatest authors. In "A View From the Bridge" he reaches his peak of dramatic structure and emotion with the bold poetry that classical parallels have given us in Ancient An-cient Form. |
