Show DUP PLANS DEDICATION OF FRISCO MARKER A Daughters of Utah Pioneers Pio-neers Marker has been placed 15 miles west of Milford to mark the site of the old mining min-ing town of Frisco. Date for the dedication of the marker the familiar stone monument with a descriptive plaque and replica of an ox bow will be announced by the two Milford DUP Camps. Horn Silver and Silver Desert The inscription on the plaque reads: "Frisco, A typical mining min-ing town at the foot of the San Francisco Mountains, was fed by the fabulously rich Horn Silver Mine. By 1885 over $60,000,000 in zinc, copper, cop-per, lead, silver and gold were hauled away by mule train and the Utah Central Railroad. Water was shipped in as well as all supplies. The mine caved and people moved away, leaving only a few families of the 4,000 population to maintain main-tain their homes, stores, school and church. By 1920 only memories and the shifting sands were left." Each year the Central Company Com-pany of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers furnishes a plaque to a community in Utah, and this year Milford was selected. The monument is made from red rocks from the Frisco mill site, selected to match the surroundings. sur-roundings. Working on the committee from the two DUP camps were Mrs. Ardath Outzen nad Mrs. Letha Smyth. Milford residents resi-dents assisting in erection of the monument were Max Baxter, Bax-ter, who cleared the ground; city employees Fred O'Leary and Carl Hanney, who hauled the rock; Doug Denny furnished furnish-ed cement for the mortar, and Jack Davis and Claude Hor-ton Hor-ton built the monument. Mrs. Hannah Smith and Mrs. Beatrice Oxley are arranging for the dedication ceremony. |
