Show Milford Volunteer Workers Poised For April Cancer Control Campaign American Cancer Society volun-' teers hope to raise enough in April to support life-saving research, set-vice and education programs, according to Mrs. Vivian Rollins, Milford Cancer Fund chairman. Fund raising is only part of the task, Mrs. Rollins pointed out. The volunteers are also spreading life-saving life-saving lessons. They are teaching the American people to watch out for warning signs of cancer and to visit their doctors at the first such sign. They are explaining the importance of yearly chest X-rays for men and of yearly uterine cell examinations for women. They are urging everyone ev-eryone to get annual health checkups check-ups as the best protection against .cancer, since the earlier' the diagnosis, diag-nosis, the greater the chances for cure. We believe the .American public has supported the Cancer Society for 45 years 'because its efforts merited that support. Now we stand on the threshold of victory over cancer. We have come far. Let us see the job through. "Make it your goal to have an annual checkup and "smear test," Mrs. Rollins said. "At present one out of every three people have cancer, but doctors agree that with early treatment they can be saved." Mrs. Rollins urged all Milford area residents to give the strongest strong-est support, both financially and morally, to the 1959 cancer drive. Assisting Mi's. Rollins in the drive will be the following committee com-mittee chairmen: Mrs. George Jefferson, education; Mrs. LaPrele Lewis, service, and Mrs. Emma Rollins, Mrs. Nora Wright and Mrs. Helen Gillins, South Milford campaign. Old sheets and old white shirts are needed for surgical dressings, Mrs. Rollins said, and the com. mittee will appreciate all contributions contri-butions of these materials. |
