Show Utah Wildlife Clubs Meet at Parowan The Southern Federation of Utah Wildlife Clubs held a meeting meet-ing in Parowan, Thursday, April 17, attended by representatives represent-atives of Beaver, Milford, Parowan, Paro-wan, Cedar City, Enterprise, Panguitch, Zion,, Kanab and St. George sportsman's clubs, at which results of the recent Range Evaluation rides and Annual An-nual Deer Count were discussed. Jack Allshou.se, sportsman's representative for the Board of Big Game Control, presented a short film showing methods of range evaluation in several areas of the state and gave an intereting talk on the big game trends and herd conservation. The Milford group headed by Charles Atkin, included W. S. Bolton, Harry Meeker and Bob Steele. Several proposals, pertinent per-tinent to the Mineral Range, area, which is considered on the ''critical" list, were endorsed by the group and will be included in recommendations made to the Board of Big Game Control of the Utah Fish and Game Dept. It was noted by W. S. Bolton that figures now available, show a 25 decrease in the Mineral deer herd since 1957 and a 50 decrease since 1956. He. also urged that noi special hunts be allowed on this range during the 1958 hunting season. Of special interest to fishermen fisher-men was a proposal by the Cedar City club, that the Fish and Game Department be requested to discontinuethe restriction of boats and motors on certain So. Utah waters. The Fish and Game Dept. has authority to regulate boats and motors when used for fishing, but cannot prevent thedr use for racing, water-skiing and pleasure cruising. The Club felt that this was an unfair restriction on fishermen. The plight of shore fishermen who very frequently have their sport ruined, dua to; such craft being operated too close to shore, was discussed with a view toward finding an equitable solution. |
