Show j Tigers Drop Delta to Move Up in Standings David Bown was the fair-h.iired fair-h.iired boy last Friday night w hen. the Milford Tigers eked out a one-point win over the Djlta Rabbits for their second "upset"' victory of the '57 league Sv ason. But he had a big assist from Doug Memmott. In the last second of the final quarter, with the Tigers trailing trail-ing by a point after Memmott missed his second ' foul shot Tickets for the Milford-Beaver Milford-Beaver game, to be played at Milford next Wednesday, Fsb. 6, will go on sale at The Corner Cor-ner Drug Friday morning. (which would have tied up the ballgame) Bown took the rebound re-bound and with a twisting jump shot sent the oval swishing cleanly through the strings. He was fouled as he shot, but no one knew it for several minutes the fans were wild and the ; gym a bedlam. After the floor was cleared Bown took his place at the foul line and made the try, but he was. too excited and the point wasn't needed, and he missed j it, but no one cared-' Coach Pettey had the Tigers really "up" for this one, and they started out like a bunch of pros. Both teams were outstanding out-standing in the defense department, depart-ment, and a 'full minute of play was gone when Tomsik dunked the first counter. Delta was unable to get a shot in the air, playing it cagey and waiting for an opening which they couldn't find. Denns Belliston fouled Delta's Barben one of the finest players play-ers we've seen on ,a floor this year and Barben sank one for Delta's first counter. Tomsik sank two free throws to run the count to 4-1, and Belliston intercepted in-tercepted a pass near the Delta basket and went all the way for a layup. Horton recovered off the bankboard and on the way down Memmott was fouled, -and sank one for a 7-1 lead. Four minutes had ticket off on the clock when Barben made Delta's first field goal. That's how tight the Tier defense was. Bown went in for a layup and ( Steele sank one for Delta to brin,g the tally to 9-5 at the quarter. Starting the seecr.d stanza it was Memmott on a tip-in, then Dutson laid one up for Delta and Belliston counted a two-pointer two-pointer for Milford. Barben dribbled down and laid one up. lie was fouled by Memmott but missed the point. Tomsik missed and charity toss, and Horton worked the ball under the basket bas-ket and passed off the Memmott Mem-mott who sank it for 2 more. Score, 159- Smyth made one for the Tigers, Fowles made a foul shot for Delta and Ekins counted a field goal to bring the tally to 17-12 at halftime. After the rest, the Fatal Third jitters hit the Tigers and they swapped their 5-point lead for a 4-point deficit, countng only 6 points to Delta's 15 in the third quarter. All through the game both teams were ice cold at the foul line. In the final period Milford found another spark and pecked away at the Delta led, after Cole addrd two more .points from the tip, Smyth sank a free one, Memmott missed, and McGinn added a point. Memmott made two free ones and Bown zioped one in to bring the count to ?9 31. Barben went in fcr a lavup and a 4-point lead- The Tigers were missing badly on some rhots and having hard luck with in-and-outers. Smyth sank one for a 31 33 count with half a minute to go. Cole fouled Mpmmott with five seconds left, Doug made the first one, missed the second, and Bown took the rebound and sank his winning basket. In the first half, Horton had 11 rebounds, and the entire en-tire Delta team only counted 10. Bo; d played a whale of a ballgamu, bringing the ball in under the basket frequently, but usually passing off to a teammate. Belliston is excellent on defense- He picks up his man near the keyhole and worries him all the way down.
