This bulletin ri ports (1) Dairy Herd R'Cord for 1391 !).j; (2) Winter Feeding Experiments vvitli Dairy Cows; (3) Some suggestions on the Building and Equipment of Factories. The following conclusions are drawn by Hie writer, F. B. Liu field, from the record of tiie dairy herd of the Station, which constitutes the first section of the bulletin : 1. It would appear that among our common cows, ve have tiiose which would foim a good foundation for a profitable dairy herd. 2. T!n form or type of a cow is a strong indication of Hie milking qualities. 3. Tiie Babcock test and the scales arc of much value to tiie purchaser of cows, but should be used with judgment. Hie vvitli 4. Tests in connection evenand milk of the morning weights ing, taken for the Ctii month after the f cow comes in, seem, in tiie majority cases, to indicate not ouly tiie probable value of the cow, but tier relative va'.uc as compared with the other cows of the herd. 5. From the yearly record it is clear that a herd of comm on cows, properly fed and handled, will return a very handsome profit over die cost of tiicir keep. C. It is clear also that, from tiie standpoint of economic production, Utah has nothing t fear from outside competition in lhe prodution of dairy products. Our average cost for feeding a cow for one year is from 35 to 30 per cent less Ilian is reported from eastern Stations, and our advantage of food, water, and climate is equalled by few places and surpassed by none. Onr market, too, is good, and, if properly looked after and developed, will continue to tie so; onr prices being fully equal to and sometimes surpassing those of Elgin and Chicago-7At tiie. present prices of dairy products as compared with the price of grain and fodders, one dollar's worth of feed, fed to a good herd of cows, will return two dollars worth of milk, butter or che, se.
